M41 and overdrive 1800

The manual specifies 30W, so you can't go far wrong with that.

80W-90 stays in better (and most of these trannies leak at lest a bit somewhere), may be better for the gearbox (it's what Volvo calls for in non-OD trannies), and doesn't seem to bother anything in the OD. Hey, it works for Irv...

This was probably not the case 30-40 years ago, but modern gear oil is formulated quite differently from what they had back then.
