740 Turbo won't start! 700 1991

Hello, I love my Volvo! I've had it for over a year now and this is the first major problem I've had with it. I went to start it up the other day and you can hear it trying to start, but it won't turn over. A couple of days before that I was having trouble with it also. It would have just a little trouble starting up and I would shift it to reverse (it's an automatic) and it would stall out. I had to get out of the driveway by putting it in neutral and rolling down the driveway. It would shift into drive without any problem. But, when I would drive occassionally the RPMs go down to zero for only a second and you would hear it, although it's hard to describe exactly what kind of sound it was, and then it would catch again. Could someone please help!!! I'd appreciate it alot! Thanks!
