Weird Brake Issues 200

Hey All,

Driving in stop and go traffic yesterday, the brakes on my '87 245DL started doing some wacky stuff. First, braking was accompanied by a squealing noise, not like a "brake pads need replacing" squeal, but more of a hydraulic squeal.

Second, the pedal would not have much resistance until it was about 3/4 of the way to the floor (master cylinder?). This morning however, the brakes worked fine with no noise and regular pedal pressure.

What could this be? What do I need to replace? Could it just be air in the lines, or what?

Thank you in advance,

Rob K.
