stripped spark plug threads?!? 700 1989

Help! I got around to changing plugs in my '89 745 and noticed that one of my plugs, as I was tightening it down, was getting harder to tighten and was off at an angle that didn't look right. I stopped took it out and looked at the block where the internal threads are. It looked to me as if I was beginning to strip the threads. I have stopped with this plug. I know what stripping does to the block. Is there anything I can do as a backyard mechanic with minimal tools? Or should I get an appointment with my local indy Volvo mechanic? Thanks so much.
