Dear hummeri,

May this find you well. In the event you've not done so, have you checked the RPM/Crank sensor? This device, which sits atop the transmission bell housing, just behind the engine (passenger side corner) senses flywheel/flexplate rotation and sends a signal to the fuel pump to "send fuel".

If it fails - and it can fail in "intermittent mode" - the fuel pump ceases to run and the engine will not start.

Do you hear the fuel pump run for 1-2 seconds, as soon as you turn the key. If not, the crank sensor has died. If so, then the crank sensor could be OK?

Bosch fuel systems use two pumps: an in-tank pre-pump and an external main pump. According to the Volvo pocket data booklet, Cars, 700,850,900 (1991-1996),
the B234 shares fuel system parts with the more common B230 engine.

The main pump Bosch part number is 0 580 464 039. The Volvo part number is 13 89 449-8.

For the pre-pump the Volvo part number is 35 07 436-8 (no Bosch number is provided). Note that Volvo part numbers are subject to revision.

Hope this helps.

Yours faithfully,

spook
