car overheats after replacing radiator and thermostat 900 1993

My sons volvo over heats after replacing the radiator and the thermostat. We are ordering an auxillary fan switch because the fan does not turn on, a temperature switch and the coolant temperature sensor. Any other things that could cause this problem? Hs is trying to get parts together, the car is at college and Volvo parts are not readily available near the college.

My husband also wants to replace the Engine Coolant temperature sensor (ECT)but I am having a hard time finding one.

Some things say to replace the heater control valve when you put in a new radiator. Could that be causing overheating?

Obviously I am not the mechanic I am just looking the parts up for them, I really do not want him to make the trip again without the neccessary parts.
