(damned) shifter detent rod 700 1990

Folks,

The shifter detent rod & button on my '90 765T are driving me insane. I have replaced the horizontal pin, the plastic spacers, the detent rod (& button), yet still the bastard pops out.

I even superglued the detent rod where it penetrates the horizontal pin, and damned if the thing didn't only last two days. Any ideas? Not a driveability issue, but aggravating nonetheless.
