2 parts: Fuel pump prob or electrical? chronic transmission leak 900 1993

When tank gets under 1/8 full, it will drop out a couple times, lose all acceleration. It does this in a series of rev, accel, rev, accel. It didn't entirely stall. After I fill up, no problem. Also, I recently moved cross country from Texas to California. Twice the car totally stalled out after cutting out 2 or three times. I could start it again after 10-15 min, but I lost total confidence after the 2nd time in Arizona and towed it the rest of the way. I did change the external fuel pump and filter since it wasn't too expensive to do, but it didn't help. I have heard that that if the temp of the gas in the tank rises, it can strain an internal pump that is on it's way out.

Second, on the same trip trnsmission fluid began leaking onto the exhaust and smoking. I had all the seals replaced. It happened again, the next mechanic said the rear trnsmission seal was bad. I thought it was brand new, but o.k.. Now it is leaking again. I have heard that it can "boil over" if it slipping, but I haven't noticed any performance probs. Any ideas?
