Instrument panel lens cleaning

I'd be very interested to know how anyone is successfully cleaning the *inside* of the clear instrument panel lens....

Is there a way to completely remove it from the black box?

Removing all the guts which are the instruments, as mounted, is no problem.

What I found was a smoky, oily film on the inside of the clear lens. That's what I am trying to clean (without scratcing the lens), yet being thorough.

I tired a commom alcohol wipe -- the kind in a first aid kit. It helped, but left a smear all over. Ideally I would remove the lense, if I could.

Also, because I want to polish the outside of the lens, AND clean out the dust, crumbs, etc. from the edges where the lens and box meet, I want to remove the lens altogether.

Looks like it might slip out of its grove if the front bezel sould be separted from the box. But this seems to be glued together after the lens is placed at the factory.
