1996 960 Check engine light 900

I was just heading home in my 96 960 with 225,000 miles and it started chuging, the check engine light came on after I put the gas pedal to the floor. I put the pedal to the floor again and the check engine light started flashing, after a few seconds it went back to the steady on position. If I don't give it much gas and slowly build up the speed the car won't chug.
Anyone have a clue what may be going on?

Thanks in Advance,
Chris
