Help on removal of pump/sender unit from fuel tank on 740 Sedan 700 1985

I want to remove the pump/sender unit from the fuel tank on my 740 Non-Turbo Sedan. As can be expected, the screws on the clamps over the rubber hoses are rusted and impossible to loosen.

There are 3 rubber hoses going to the unit: Looking directly at the cover-place...

1. One is connected at the 3 o'clock position (which I've managed to remove)

2. Another connected at the 2 o'clock position (this has a screwless spring-clamp so I should be able to get this out easily)

3. The last one connects in the center of the plate. The clamp for this is flush with the plate, with the screw rusted in place. Instead of fighting with this clamp in that restricted space, is it possible to unscrew the clamp on the other end of that hose instead and pull the hose along with the sender-unit out ?

Anyone know where I can find the other end of this particular hose ? And what are the functions of hoses 1 & 2 ?

Another problem is the electrical connector to the sender unit. The wiring ends in a large oblong white plastic piece in upper-area of the plate. Is this white thing a connector that unplugs, or is there another connecter further along that wiring that needs to be unplugged along with a grounding lug ?

The only reason I'm trying to remove the sender unit is to replace the filter-sock, which is as old as the car. I thought I'd do this along with the fuel-filter replacement. I dont really have any problems with the in-tank pump, so I was wondering if all this trouble is worth it. Do these socks get clogged over time (almost 20 years now) and need replacing ?

I'll probably also need a new gasket for the unit - does Volvo carry one ? I dont see any listed on FcpGroton.

Thanks !

Noel
