960 idle shake

I'm thinking of buying a '94 960, but the the engine shakes in idle.
The dealer says his mechanic has no idea what is causing it. (They have tried to fix it over the past week). He is offering me a $150 discount if I take the car 'as is'. I've seen elsewhere here that this is likely the inlet manifold gasket near port 1. The suggested test it to apply carburettor cleaner to the port and it should stop shaking for a few seconds. Where do I apply the cleaner? In the port, near the port, on the gasket?

I would like to confirm this is the problem, and at the same time eliminate an expensive valve issue.

Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks
