Hydraulic presses 200

After my experience paying $75 to have the torque rod bushings pressed in, and my inability to find a machine shop willing to do the job (called one place, and asked if they had a press and the guy who answered said several, when I asked about getting the job done, he transferred me to a guy who told me they didn't have any presses). Anyway, I've seen plans for do-it-yourself presses using what looks like a car jack mounted between two spindles, 20 ton presses for a couple hundred bucks, etc. Anyone had experience with the cheap route or am I wasting my time?
