Don't Forget the BASICS! 200 1980

Well slowly but surely the project is bound for the street! Well trying to diagnose a poor idle and throttle response problem (in a car that has been sitting for almost 3yrs!) I ended up replacing the plug wires with late model style wires with the metal sleeves at the plugs. The car still ran like crap! So with my trusty 13mm I started torquing all the intake bolts, checkewd the vacuum lines, tried timing it etc...4 hrs later no difference AUGGHHH!!!
After I replaced the plugs I noticed a sparking sound coming from somewhere....hmmmm couldn't find it, Just for fun I measured the resistance of the new wires...3 Megohms!!!! holy crap! really high (good for hei setups but way too much for the standard coil I was running). I put the crappy wires back on and VOILA! it purred like a kitten. I wanted to share this because amongst the fantastic troubleshooting info that is available on this site you should never loose sight of the basics, Spark-Fuel-Compression.
