help!! automatic transmission won't shift 200 1990

I've got a 1990 240 with an Automatic Transmission that has been absolutely wonderful until today. For whatever reason, when the car is put into drive, it will not shift out of first gear. Every once in a while, if I manually move the gear selector through 1, 2, and D, I feel it clunk into 3rd, but it still won't go into overdrive. I've replaced the fluids regularly, and the levels are fine. Also, it shifts into reverse with no problem... any ideas what this could be?
Thanks!
