AW70 Shifter linkage - straight or curved? 700 1989

Finally got the new motor and tranny into the car last night. This has been a 4 week, one day on the weekend, project so my memory isn't so good.

Anyhow, having trouble connecting the shifter linkage to the gear selector nub that is on the transmission. My linkage (the long bar from the shifter) has a bend/curve in it that favors the side where the transmission tunnel is, not sure if this is how it was previously and I am almost positive that nothing got hung up on it to bend it.

So, is the linkage supposed to be curved or straight?

Thanks,
Bean
