Trouble codes sent to the ECM by the TCM are usually not detected by the average OBDII code reading sofware. For example, a bad PNP sensor will be detected by the TCM, which will then tell the ECM to light the MIL. But when you hook up most scan tools (except for OE and very expensive ones, SNAP ON, etc...) no codes will be found by the tool.
