Searching for a Schematic for a 240 8-track Player... Any ideas where to begin? 200 1980

Yes.

Is it on the tape player, or on both the Radio and tape?

If it's just the tape player, it's most likely a bad tape head. I had to replace the one I had in mine. The left channel of audio on the tape came and went with a noise that sounded like water in your ear.

If you want more details on how to fix that, I can post them.

If it's on both the radio and tape play back, it's probably a bad capacitor on the amp board, which is located on the left side of the stereo (when looking at it from the front). Follow the wires coming off the tape head, that's the amp board.

These radios have really nice wide band AM radios in them, which makes music sound really good compared to a newer AM radio with the "talk" filters. It's one of the reasons I decided to convert to AM stereo. It will sound pretty amazing actually (for an AM radio).
