ABS sensor question 900 1993

About two months ago, I had an indy shop replace the AC hoses/tubing on my 945. They evidently disconnected the leads (both sides) from the ABS sensors from the wheels where they connect to the wiring harness along the edge of the fender, where it meets the hood.

So, the question: The ABS warning light never came on. I had thought that the system compared the speeds of all wheels, so the absence of any signal from the front would have done ... something. Brakes, of course, still worked flawlessly, but any explanation would be appreciated. Thanks.
