Overdrive fit 200 1988

I purchased this car a year ago, great car. 1988 240GL. with no a/c , power steering or radio. i have since fixed all these problems. just recently the overdrive would go into "fits" and the light would come on by itself and engage. and disengage. then the button wouldnt turn it off. it finally stopped and is stuck. the car will not shift into 4th. when you press the button all it does it turn the light on and off with no change in rpm's. relay or od solenoid?
