5 Speed Drain Surprise 700

After purchaseing my used '89 5 spd turbo I decided to replace the transmission oil/fluid. When draining the fluid to my surprise a ballbearing also rolled out!! It's about 5-6 mm in diameter. I suspect it's got something to do with one of the shifter detents because going into first is a little notchey and sometimes needs a double-clutch. The first-second shift is a little stiff also but it never jumps out of any gear. Does anyone know if this be replaceable with the transmission in place or does it have to be removed and taken apart?
