How do I see the Fault Codes? 200 1993

Hi. This is a '93 240. I'd like to check for any fault codes.
The box (near the brake master cylinder) has the probe wire, the little button, and the LED, along with only two (of the eight) holes in the box with terminals inside -- they're no. 2 and no. 6.
What do I do?
Assuming I'm supposed to put the probe wire in one of them, which one, 2 or 6? Do I do this with the ignition key switch on, or on accessories, or off? When do I press the little button next to the LED? And what's the order of steps.
I also assume that I count the blinks of the LED, but for how long (3 digits?), and supposed there's more than one fault displayed? How do I tell them apart -- do they repeat?
Sorry for all these questions -- please be patient and explain the procedure -- this is my first 240 with this feature.
Thanks very much.
