is it dangerous to run my 82 245 with the coil hooked up directly to the battery? 200

If it is the ignition switch, many other things won't work either from key position II. And the switch is easy to replace; just two screws from behind.

The coil may get warm if you run at full battery, I guess. Good for a diagnostic, but I doubt anyone would want to drive it that way for any length of time.
