1990 740 T wagon......stalls 700 1990

I have a 740 t wagon,that stalls out on my when I seem to drive over rough roads or come to a stop,if I put the car in ( N ) and hold the gas it will not shut off,this is not how I know the car to drive and I don't want to get another car b4 I fix this one,does anyone out here know what could be wrong;the car starts each time that I crank it and in ( P ) I can give it as much gas as I want to,but driving it is where it stalls on me.....
