Kickdown comes on 200

I have an '89 240 sedan, automatic (unfortunately). Occasionally the transmission kickdown arrow comes on and makes a weird buzzing noise sometimes when I am pulling out. Pushing the side button only changes the noise slightly. It usually goes off in a minute or two.

This is an annoyance and I don't really see the kickdown's value anyway. Is there an EASY (operative word, along with SIMPLE) way of just disconnecting the kickdown.
