Alternator Failed - Stereo AMP and SUB woofer cause ? 200 1989

My son recently installed a 700watt (250 rms X 2 Ch) amt and with 2 large subs. Well, just found out the Alt is shot. Is there a way to to use this equip w/o wasting a new alternator or should I remove it all (wont make him too happy).
