Starting issues 1990 744t 700

So, I'm trying to sort out some issues with a newly acquired `90 744t with 150k.
The PO hard wired the fuel pump, so it works sans the relay
The issue is...
When trying to start it, it requires 3-4 full cranks with a sec or 2 in between cranks.
If I try charging the system even for a min or so still no go.
If I try cranking it, no matter how long I continue to crank it it won't kick over.
but sure enough if i repeat on the 3rd time it'll rumble to life.

When cranking it the tach jumps around.
I've checked and there is a spark.
I do hear the main pump below the driver's seat humming

Any suggestions?
Maybe a fuel pump?

So, I did a error code pull and I got...

2-1-2

3-1-2 Signal missing for knock-related fuel, Wiring break between EZK terminal 4 and FI # 28...
okay, don't yell but how do I fix these issues?

I have no idea how to rewire the main pump back to the relay. Would switching to a walbro intank eliminate the main fuel pump issue?

The starting issue still remains maybe a FPR related issue?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
Mark-
