Central Locking system 200 1988

Phil's on the right track- the two relays for this (one lock, the other unlock) live right in the center top of the dash. They are below the two center vents and you ought to be able to see them if you loosen the plastic center console and lean it back. Not easy but it can be done.
Also, just inside the left console side panel, is a plug-in connector about even with the top edge of the carpet for the lock system. It contains wires to the rear doors and trunk or hatch. You would have had to unplug it or pull it way out of the way to get the fan out. Make sure it's plugged in. You might have lost the one end down into the carpet and not noticed. It's down by the turn signal flasher relay, and has blue wires in it.
Good luck, hope this helps.
