93 940 wagon with intermittant dash light problems

Hi guys! I just purchased my first Volvo (93 940 wagon) with lots of miles >200k
I am the third owner. The second owner has provided me with lots of receipts etc and personally knew the first owner.

Now I have the car and there are some wierd things to fix: the gas gauge decides when it will work or not, the check engine light is the same. The driver rear running light flickers so he wired a hot from the passenger side to the driver side(rear) to "fix" it, however, now the bulb-out light comes on when the lights are on or the brake is depressed.

The power lock switch also doesn't work.

Ideas???? Have you experienced this before?
