Automatic xmission fluid levels 200 1984

Hi,
Was wondering if someone can help with a comment...

When I check the automatic transmission fluid on my 84 240 in the morning before starting, I understand that I can use the square cutout on the dipstick as a reference for the correct fluid level if the engine is stone cold. If I fill up with fluid by following this mark, I notice that when I check the fluid when the engine is running and warmed up, the level is way too high. Which level mark should I follow?
