Once again with the steering rack questions 900 1996

Ok, taking out the almost new rack out of my 90 744T and want to transplant it into my 960. I know about the ID plates and there isn't a clear answer on the 960 as to what rack it has. So...hypothetically speaking of course, if the racks are made by different companies, what would stop me from putting the 740 steering rack into the 960. BTW, the 960 is a 96 sedan.
