Overdrive Tranny 200 1980

I just bought a 1980 240 as a car I was basicaly going to run into the ground traveling to and from work. The car has a 4-speed tranny, it runs great but could use another gear. My question is... is the 5-speed or overdrive trannies for this model worth the hassle of putting in or should I try another option? This car is really starting to grow on me so I am thinking of putting some effort into fixing it up. I have heard of people putting V-8's in these but has anyone put a V-6 in one? If so where could I find info? Thanks for any info it will be appreciated.
