73-74 odometer quits 140-160

Has anyone rebuilt the speedometer on a 73-74 144? My speedometer works well (relative to the "usual" errors), but the odometer does not register the milage. I have read from previous postings that some of the gears might be broken. I picked one up from the junkyard few weeks ago, only to have the same problem. How do we take it apart? I notice two screws on the face of the speedometer, but the needle seems stubborn to come off. Removing the back cover does not give access to most of the components. Any pointers? Thanks in advance.
