Car will not start after driven 20 or 30 miles utill sits a couple of hours 200 1988

Help!

My 88 240 has started a new problem, after driving for about 20 or 30 miles the car turns over but refeuses to start, let it set for a couple of hours and it starts right up and runs great. Whats up with that? Also some times it will stall for no reason, but when it does that it will start right up again. One other problem is it is loosing water, there are no leaks in the cooling system that I can find, and there is no puddels when parked. I checked the compresion it is as follows

cylender #1 168, #2 165 #3 172 #4 174

There is no sign of water in oil and the radator has no leeks.
According to temp guage the never over heats. This has me stumped!
