rocker trim 200

I took off those long, skinny trim pieces that go from wheel to wheel along each rocker panel. Now that my anti-rust work is done, I got replacements for the clips which broke (most of them) and want to put the trim back on.

Do I put the clips on the car and the trim on the clips or put the clips on the trim and then try to line them all up with the holes to pop them all in?
