I've been looking for a 245 for a while and while driving by a small repair/towing shop noticed the nose of on in the row of inactive cars he had. He says that it is for sale and that he had replaced the head gasket. As the battery had been removed and time was short didn't really get into it yet, but plan on stopping by on the way home tonight.
It is a 1988 240 wagon, 149,000 miles, blue exterior, blue leather interior, 3rd seat, auto trans, good tires, no musty smell even though it has been sitting there about 14 months. Ran check on VIN with autocheck.com - nothing of note in history just registrations & renewals until 2003
My question - providing it starts & moves OK - and plausible story why it has been sitting there - what should I offer?
I did connect to my car with jumpers and tested some electrical workings.
Here are problems I've noticed so far:
1. looks like from cat back exhaust shot
2. breather hose has large crack at flame trap end
3. radio didn't work - security code maybe?
4. driver side turn/running lights out - looks like wires cut?
5. rear license plate light assemblies missing
6. rear hatch panel lose
7. driver's door inside handle pulled lose at top of hand hold
8. heater blower didn't change from vent to def or floor (vacuum?)
9. been sitting in shady spot under tree - which also means exterior very dirty and looks bad - but I think it should clean up OK
Opinions?
