Still leaking after cam oil seal replacement 200

Oil can still be appearing as if from nowhere because it runs down the back of the plastic plate as well as the front.
The oil seal may have worn a groove in the cam, so a new one still leaks. When you remove the front cam bearing bracket you can see that there is a choice of how far in to position the seal. Put it in a place so that it doesn't coincide with the grove. Use a bit of sealer or Locktite to hold firmly in place - I have had a seal run loose in the bracket and twist itself sideways.
I've always found the timing cover gasket a devil to make oil-tight. It always seems to want to leak at the point where the cardboard gasket does a sharp bend up over the bearing housing. Use plenty of sealant, and torque down correctly.

It is very important to keep the front of the engine clear of oil around the water pump. I had slight but chronic oil seapage once and over time it softened the rubber O-ring between the pump and the head. It blew out suddenly.
