srs light 900 1997

I was stripping out a nonfunctional hands free phone device out of a recently purchased 960. While removing patch cords and such i found the srs on the passenger side was un plugged. I plugged in the electrical connection to the srs module in the side post panel and now the srs light on the dash is lit up. Is this a malfunction of the unit or should i figure that it has been triggered and was not replaced. Previous owner claims that the vehicle was not involved in a accident.

Regards,
TC
