fuel problem 700

Will wonders never cease?
So, the last 2 weeks I have smelled a fuel odor ever time I go outside to start my Volvo. Then the other day, after a 45min highway drive, I parked the car and got out of it while it was still running. I noticed a noise coming from the fuel pump. It sounded like it was sucking in some air as well as fuel- the slurppy noise you get when you drink a beverage through a straw down to the bottom. I also noticed that recently the car has to turn over a few extra times in the morning to get started. Is this indicative of a faulty fuel pump? If not what are some common fuel leak locations (88 740gle)? Could it be a clogged fuel filter?

THANKS
Mike
