What to look for when shopping for a V90/960 wagon S90-V90

My Volvo experience is with 200's. I am contemplating purchasing a V90/960 wagon. What are the "soft spots" in this series? Was the transition to the independent rear axle in the '95 model year or later? What are the peculiarities of these vehicles, mechanically speaking? What should I pay particular attention to besides trying to get one that received regular maintenance. Secondly, I window shop on E-Bay Motors, have thought about buying one, flying from Southern California to pick up one on the East Coast where they are much cheaper and enjoying a drive back. Anyone had experiences w/ E-Bay Motors?
