87 740 GLE No start HELP!

Hello to all, I have an 87 740 b230f non turbo that won't start most of the time. It will crank OK but it appears its not getting any fuel OR spark. on the rare occasion when it does start it runs perfect. Thru the tips here I've determined the following- when cranking no fuel is coming out of the return line from the rail (I unpluged it to test) and I can't hear the fuel pumps running. The fuel injectors are not getting voltage but the fuel relay clicks and there IS 12V coming thru the #1 fuse (ECU). There is no spark at the plugs. There is NO voltage coming into the #11 fuse (tank pump) at all at any time. When I remove the fuel relay and jump terminals 30 and 87/2 the fuel pumps run and fuel gushes out of the return line. However when I try to start it while jumping the fuel relay terminals, it still won't start even though fuel is definitely coming thru. And then a few days later it will start like nothing was ever wrong, but the next day it won't. The battery is full and the gas is 3/4 tank. Is there a crank sensor on this model? Could it be the main computer or fuel ECU?
Any help will be GREATLY APPRECIATED
Thanks
