Gear / shift / ratio /speed 700

I'm trying to determine what is normal gear/ratio for when my AW71 transmission shifts from gear to gear. For instance, it sometimes seems to shift into 2nd gear when the tachometer is at about 3000 RPM, and when I get at a stable speed on relatively level terrain it shifts to 3rd gear at about 33-3700 RPM, depending on my acceleration. I don't think I have a heavy foot, but I'm probably not best qualified to determine that. The reason I ask is because I'm about to do some tinkering with my kickdown cable, and I want to know if it's really the issue or if in fact it's shifting properly and I'm the one expecting something different. This is my first Volvo, first 4 cylinder, first Turbo and I'm learning something different and new about it everyday, which is fine with be.

Are there some docs somewhere that I've missed pertaining to this?
