Need AC help: Can I convert my 88 744 TIC to use the 91-92 style AC parts 700

I am interested in doing a dash board swap in my 1988 744 TIC and putting in a new-style dash board out of a 91-92 740. I would like to use the new-style controls if I can manage. I heard that the climate control system is different between the two body styles. How is it different? Could I convert what I have in my car now over to use the new controls or would I have to change the whole (or part ) of the AC system? The big thing that I can think of is that the heater control on the older car requires more force to move than the know on the new-styles cars was. Why is this?

What would this conversion involve?

Thanks,
Eamon
