Car runs better with Ultra 93 gas and ethanol? 900

This morning I filled the tank with about 4 gallons Sunoco ultra 93 gas and poured in 2 pints absolute dehydrated Ethonal (I know I know...I was trying to beat the smog test). Then brought it out for a spin, the engine ran noticably smoothier than on 87 gasoline. So is the engine built for higher octane gas actually? I tried different gas on my 1990 Acura legend and 1989 Toyota Supra and could not tell any difference.

btw: the inspection station's computer was down so I did not get it tested. Is that safe to leave the ethanol in there? Or I better fill the tank to dilute it?

My car is a 1994 944 NA with 100K miles. I had a signature but it sometimes does not show up
