COOLING SYSTEM QUESTIONS........ 200 1986

Hello everyone,
I'm getting ready to flush and replace my engine coolant and had a question about the 50/50 mixture. I have well water and it has a high mineral content. Inside the house we use a water softening system that uses the salt for its operation. In the past I have used distilled water from the store. I was wondering what your thoughts were on just using the tap water or softened water.
Also, I want to install an engine block heater so when the outside temp gets below 35F the engine won't have to idle or strain under the colder temps for long prior to driving off. Where exactly is the block port and what kind of tool is needed to remove it?

Thanks for your input.
