960 manual transmission swap. 900

In Europe, the 960 was sold with a 2.5 litre engine with a 5-speed manual. I know because I have a 1996 model (pictured).

I believe that in the North America market the 960 was only ever imported with an automatic.

I am thinking of looking for a USA model 960 wagon with a blown engine/transmission and swapping in a 5-speed sourced in Europe.

Has anyone ever done this? Does anyone have any thoughts on how practical a swap this might be?

I would think it just a matter of replacing mechanical parts (transmission, clutch, bell housing, slave/master cylinder, peddles, interior trim). The one item I'm less sure of is the wiring harness and ECU. Would the wiring changes be minimal? Does the ECU take input from the transmission??

Thanx.

Stephen
