AW72L compatible with AW70? 200 1985

I have a 1985 245DL non-turbo that I want to replace the tranny (it's slipping badly). I saw a nice 1989 740 GLE with an AW72L (?) tranny. Is there any problem with putting an AW72L into an AW70 car? I noted the gear ratios are different, but the bell housing, wiring, and mounts look the same. TIA!
