Headlight Relays 120-130

I'm probably getting ahead of myself, but I'm pulling together parts and making plans..... On my BMW airheads with their less-than-great electrics I've always added relays to the high and low beam circuits so the bulb gets (fused) direct juice from the battery with substantial guage wiring. I forget the equation, but inefficiencies in the wiring cause exponential loss in brightness.... I did see the difference on my bikes' headlight, and heard it with the horns when I did a similar relay installation there. Is this a common upgrade to 122 wiring? I didn't come across anything in the archives. Also probably will put in H4 headlights and get rid of the sealed-beams.
