940 SE Coolant Reservoir

When I got home tonight, I heard some gurgling from under the hood. When I checked, I found the hose at the bottom of the reservoir disconnected. I also found the bottom spout of the reservoir cracked about half way up but not completely broken off. I lost about 3 quarts of water. I feel lucky that I didn't lose the engine. There wasn't and indication, on the temperature gauge, that any thing was amiss. I have never read, on any post, of this type of problem with the reservoir. Did I miss something?
