B230 Intake gasket install (TIP) 200 1987

A few months back my mechanic replaced the intake gasket, trying to solve a rough idle problem. It did not solve the problem.

I dicovered the gasket still had a leak, and when I removed it I found the gasket around the rear port distorted.

When I attemped to insall the new one I found out why, the gasket has three smaller (unused in my application) holes, two below the front port and one below the rear port. On my car the hole below the rear port is filled with a large bolt head. The hole in the gasket does not fit over it and the gasket doesn't fit flush with the head, If I would have bolted it down it would have distorted the gasket. Its easy to overlooked it.

What I did was cut the unused hole off so that it fits nice and flush with the head.

To early to tell if it solves my problem, don't have everything bolted back together yet, doing injector seals also.

Hope this helps someone.
